Guy Mokuho Mercier
Born in Paris in 1946, he first practised zazen with Master Deshimaru in 1973 and became his disciple in March of 1976 when he received the Tokudo ordination (monk ordination).
Since then, he actively participated in the life of the Sangha, through organising summer camps, while assuming responsibility for the kitchen (as Tenzo) in 1977 and 1978 in Val d'Isère and then helping to set up the Zen Temple of the Gendronnière in 1979 and 1982.
After Master Deshimaru's death, he remained active in the Sangha while taking care of the setup of the Paris Zen Dojo on rue des Cinq Diamants in 1984 then on rue Keller in 1990.
From 1986 to 1991 he was again Tenzo for all sessions at La Gendronnière Zen Temple for which he then assumed responsibility from 1991 to 1997. During this time he oversaw major roadworks and the upgrading of all the buildings to European security standards.
Today, he is the treasurer of the AZI and is in charge of the Josen Zen Centre in Tours. He directs sesshins in France, in England and in Spain.
